Rental price will be $115/night + $60 Cleaning fee.
Construction has already started on the lot and we are aiming for February 2024 to have these new cabins ready for guests, although that may change depending on many factors. Without a doubt the best view at Highland Hideaways, this cabin will overlook Wilson creek and have a wide open view of the surrounding mountains. The cabin will have 2 queen beds and a couch, it will feature a full bathroom, and kitchen. Perfect for couples or hikers taking a break from the trails. The cabin will be 400sq ft with a large front porch overlooking the hillside. |

Updates: 7/1/2023 We think that anything worth paying for is worth learning so this will be a journey as we intend on doing the majority of the planning and work ourselves. 7/20/2023 Excavation is nearing completion we've cut pretty far into the hillside facing the river over. 8/1/2023 Things are moving quickly. We've got the septic permit and we're set up to get water ran to the lot by the end of the month as well as the power conduit. 8/30/2023 We spoke to the health department and they do not require anything for us to extend the water line off of our existing well. We ran the water line up the trench 24" deep tee'd into the existing well line fed from Wild Horse Lodge. We've buried the power conduit from where the power pole will be placed on the hillside to the power meter location. The septic install is scheduled for mid September. We're headed up to Ohio labor day weekend to finalize the cabin. 9/3/2023 We visited Ohio this weekend to finalize the plans for the cabin, and walked through some of their floor models, check out this video! 9/20/2023 The septic system is now completed. Which means all of the utilities have been installed and we're ready for cabins. Rumples Retreat's yard really took a beating this time around but it's nothing a little grass seed can't fix. The Ohio cabin gave the Virginia building standards a run for their money, and let's just say, it didn't win any popularity contests with the local building department. However, we've been granted permission to build two smaller cabins, and we're pretty stoked about it! Who knew that preparing the lot for two cabins would pay off? Now we're back on track, and it's cabin time! 🏡🏡 "The Overlook" has become "The Overlooks".. we'll come up with a better name soon.. The new cabins will be 400sq ft with 2 bedrooms, full bathroom, small kitchen, full washer/dryer, full fridge, and stove/oven. 10/9/2023 We visited the factory in Pennsylvania where the cabins are built this weekend and toured their assembly line. We were very happy to see that the cabins that we finalized were better than we had hoped they would be. The interior is large enough for a full family, and nearly the same size as Rumple's Retreat with the bonus of having a door for the second room instead of a loft. 10/22/2023 We recently received word that there was an opening in the schedule and one of the cabins can be delivered late November, early December. This has really accelerated our timeline and we're rushing to get the lot completed. Jmar Excavating just finished clearing the backside of the lot to its final dimensions, and look at that view! I've also built the power panel and included EV charging station as well. We're headed up next weekend to dig and pour the footers for the cabin and deck, set the power meter, and finish the lot with gravel. 11/3/2023 We've got a lot done over the past week. I built the power panel to Virginia NEC 2020 code. If you have any electrical experience this is a relatively simple DIY build, well worth learning. The powerplant has been installed, and is waiting for inspection. We've poured the foundation piers for the cabin and the deck, and we've got a good start on the deck. 12/4/2023 We've finished the porch and the lot is complete just in time for the cabin to arrive. They've finished building the cabin off-site and will be headed this way by the end of the week. The powermeter passed inspection without any issues, and we're waiting on Appalachian power to come out and pull the line from the pole. 12/11/2023 The cabin arrived Friday and we've been working to get it set up on the lot through the rainy weekend. There's still some work to do, skirting, gravelling, building the fence down around the perimeter, and we're waiting on APC to come out and connect power, but we're on track to be ready by early February. 1/6/2024 We're only a few weeks away from taking reservations for The Overlook starting in March. We had Jmar Excavation come out and finish the gravel on the lot while we put up the fence/lights. Its starting to take shape, reach out to us directly if you want to us to block off any dates before we go live. Completion 3/1/2024 The fence and road lighting is completed, as well as the firepit and outdoor benches. We've finished decorating and prepping for the first arrivals and we're excited to be wrapping up this stage of the construction. We ended up installing a supplemental water pump since the elevation was just a little to high to keep decent pressure from the well pump below. The lot is lit up quite well at night but we will be installing overhead lights in the next few weeks to allow for a little more night life. This was great experience that really put our skills to the test, I want to thank everyone involved we couldn't have done it without you. |
