Common Questions

Can we camp in the yard?

Yes, if you have additional guests who want to camp in the yard, you are welcome.

Can we bring a trailer?

Yes, we allow campers/trailers on the lower lots. Check the rentals page to see available utility hookups.

Can we explore the entire property?

Yes, but please do not intrude on other guests. See Maps.

Is the arcade available to all guests?

Yes, the arcade is available to any guests who stay at any rental.

Is the Drive-In theater available to all guests?

The drive-in theater is only available for Rumple's Retreat, Wild Horse Lodge, Ridgetop, The Little Shire, and The Overlook rentals.

Where can I get firewood?

We sell firewood, available at the arcade. You can purchase this via Venmo, Airbnb, or the deposit box on-site.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, up to 2 pets per rental — with the exception of the Glamping Pods, which are only large enough for a single pet (please reach out for exceptions).

Can I work remotely? Is the internet fast enough?

Yes, the internet is fast enough for VOIP and video calls with no delay — speeds run around 80–150Mbps, and Wi-Fi spans the entire property.

Do I need a fishing license to fish the creek?

No, as long as you are on our property you do not need a license.

How do I start the outdoor theater?

Press the green button and wait for the projector to start and the intro video to play, then use the scroll wheel to navigate the movies and press it in to select one. The theater turns off automatically after the movie ends.

Meet Your Hosts

Josh and Noelle, owners of Highland Hideaways

Hi, we're Josh and Noelle. We're based in Raleigh, NC, but you'll find us here at Highland Hideaways more often than not. Josh works as a Network Engineer and Noelle is a Cardiac Sonographer by trade — but we both love to build things, and that's turned into a habit of expanding Highland Hideaways one project at a time ever since we took over Highland Hideaways in 2021.

Our Journey

2021Purchased Rumple's Retreat — the cabin that started it all.
2022Built the on-site Arcade, renovating and upgrading every game ourselves; broke ground on The Overlook; and added the Private Drive-In Theater.
2023Purchased and renovated Wild Horse Lodge.
2024Finished construction on The Overlook, perched on the hilltop above the Arcade.
2025Built Ridgetop Retreat, our tiny arched cabin on the upper lot, and added the external laundry room.
2026Completed The Little Shire, our hobbit-style arched cabin, and extended the Arcade — and we're not done yet.
